2009-03-23
Name: Sahil Shroff
Age: 28
Starsign: Aries
Home: Mumbai
Occupation: Model
Q. Who is Sahil Shroff?
SHROFF: Sahil is a simple and easygoing guy who thinks that the world is full of opportunities. I believe in keeping good relationships with all; in and out of work and like to have fun in all that I do. I believe that the people I work with are bigger than I am and so if I make it big and it is also down to these people. I think that if you believe in something then you should give it 100%.
Q. What is it you believe in?
SHROFF: I believe that I?m good at what I do, if I wasn?t I wouldn?t do it. I believe that I can be whatever it is I want to be. When it comes to work; a good model and actor, family; a good son and a brother, and a good friend to my friends.
Q. Where did it all begin for you?
SHROFF: When I was younger, I wanted to be a cricketer; I was a fast bowler for Yorkshire under 15?s. Then, I lived in Australia for years and never thought I?d come back to India. My Mum lives in India and although she never pushed me to come back, I thought the time was right. When the chance of modelling came up, I thought it was worth giving it a shot so I went back to India and spent time with my Mum and pursue modelling and then it hit off and has never stopped since.
Q. How do you find modelling?
SHROFF: It?s a job; I get paid to do it. I have to turn up at a certain time, wear and do what is required of me that is it. It can be difficult if you are not used to the lifestyle but I take it as a job; fun is outside work.
Q. As a future debutant in the Bollywood film industry, what will make you stand out from the rest of the competition?
SHROFF: I think there is certain looks that I portray which will help me stand out but I think I also have a good balance between my look and my talent. I think the core aspect of what I want to achieve is to be myself yet competently be anything that a role requires of me.
Q. Are you doing any training?
SHROFF: Yeah, I?ve done training; minimal training for three months but I realised that there is a procedure to every job; the way you start it and the way you go about it. I think I?ve learnt everything I need to, to be a good actor and I think the rest of it is down to trial and error from my part.
Q. As well as modeling and acting would it be safe to say you also have a keen interest in business?
SHROFF: Yes I do; I?ve recently opened a clothing store in Mumbai called ?HUE? and run it in conjunction with my older sister. I?m in love with my sister and would do anything for her. She always wanted to do it and so when the opportunity arose, we went for it. The clothing range is expensive, but we are doing well. We source a lot of our clothes from London. I?m also working on bringing out a hair product in collaboration with Ghia who is a friend of mine, but acting is still the main priority.
Q. If you could write your own role for a film, what would it be?
SHROFF: (He laughs) The role would be where I wake up in the morning a happy but stressed guy who deals with all the pressure that life can throw at you. Then, in the evening he would have a few drinks and is more relaxed and is suave with the girls. I would want to portray everything that a normal person is - real life projected on camera.
Q. Do you feel the current Bollywood films do not cover normality as much as they could?
SHROFF: I think there is too much fantasy but people are getting smarter; Indian cinema is changing and it is getting more real. I think fantasy is great because it makes you appreciate realism. You can?t truly know what one is without the other so it?s good to cover all aspects. I like fantasy but I?m all about realism. I never read fiction books. However, as an actor, I would take anything on board and work with it.
Q. Who would you chose to be cast opposite you?
SHROFF: I would love to be cast opposite Katrina Kaif. I think she is a very attractive girl. I also think Kareena Kapoor is a brilliant actress.
Q. How far would you be prepared to go when it came to nudity?
SHROFF: I would do as far as underwear. I?ve done several underwear shoots for modeling assignments and so I?m fine with that. There?s no fun if you go beyond that, a guy?s only got so much to show so a little should be left to the imagination! Being a woman is so much more charming than being a man when it comes to showing your body off. Women are beautiful.
Q. What is your idea of beauty?
SHROFF: Anything that is soothing on the eye and simplicity. Women are beautiful, if women ran the world, it would be a more peaceful place. Beauty is something that you keep looking at and it just gets better for you.
Q. What do you like in a woman?
SHROFF: Her eyes, I think they are the most beautiful feature of all.
Q. What is your idea of the perfect date?
SHROFF: If I was in India, I would take her to a beautiful Island for a wonderful weekend. I?m a beach person and there is nothing more romantic than her, dinner and the sound of waves crashing right next to you.
Q. How do you feel about women making the first move?
SHROFF: I love it! But they don?t do it enough in India. They hardly do it at all. They?re straight up in Australia but you know what, when you are there and you have so many women coming up to you, you get sick of it and you begin to look for the more reserved ones and then when you?re in India they just seem so quiet. I think if you like someone then you should make it obvious, say it and put it out there and let the guy know. Guys have it hard; girls should just make it a little easier for them.
Q. What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?
SHROFF: I took a girl on holiday to Queensland; it was a very romantic trip.
Q. Good guy, bad boy ? who comes out on top?
SHROFF: The bad boys turned good.
Q. Where would you put yourself on the scale?
SHROFF: I am a bad boy turned good!
Q. What is your life plan for 2009?
SHROFF: Movies, movies, movies! I?m fully focused on my career at the moment and am trying to cover every angle that the Indian film industry expects from a good actor, to a good body, to a good face, good martial arts skills and so on. There is too much competition in this day and age and so my main focus is my acting skills. I think the only thing that stands out is talent and that is the bottom line of it.
