MEET THE TWO THIRDS OF 3 IDIOTS

With the release of 3 Idiots this week, Supriya Davda caught with two thirds of the threesome idiots, Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan for a quick lowdown

BY SUPRIYA DAVDA | DEC 22, 2009

Q. Are you both happy with the final product of 3 Idiots?
M: Oh yes most definitely, extremely elated. And to see the progression from the initial script to the finished product makes me feel really proud.
S: It’s extremely heartening to see the film and what its fallen into. So far the response has been great; there have been a few screenings so we are privileged with the response it has received. It’s a great satisfaction.

Q. Sharman, how easy or hard was it for you to slip into Raju Rastogi’s character?
S. You know, the guiding force was most definitely the script, but then you have the combination of the directors will too, which is extremely encouraging. Gut instinct is what I rely on mostly.

Q. Although the film is a “feel-good” film, there are social aspects that are touched upon, such as college pressures. How difficult was it to show this struggle?

S: You definitely understand the struggle and the mental condition and the need to get great grades. It wasn’t a conscious effort to show that frustration.
M: Again you defiantly understand that pressure. But there wasn’t a conscious effort to see such social pressures that students go through. Although the character that I play Farhan Quereshi is very close to my real life story, you must follow what you desire to do and musn’t succumb to any pressures.

Q. The three of you are back together after Rang De Basanti, what was it like working with one another?
M:
It just felt like an extended party and continues now as we speak. We played a number of tricks, competing with one another playing badminton and volleyball. And again being in IIM-B campus, we got to stay in the girl’s hostel, just felt like being a student again.

Q. What was it like working with the diva Kareena Kapoor for the first time?
Both: Kareena is a treat to work with. Initially we thought that this diva would immerge on the sets, but it was such a pleasure working with her.

Q. Sharman this movie will put you into a completely different league? What are you expecting here on?
S. Well I don’t know about different league, the script always chooses the actor. I have two films complete already and are waiting to be released. "Allah Ke Banday" and "Toh Baath Paqi".
