CHAI WITH CHANNA

British homebred actor Ameet Chana grills Bollywood's Karan Johar with a volley of questions that sure had the director working up a sweat

2009-05-07

AC: In your opinion as a metrosexual man today, who looked the sexiest in Dostana: Abhishek, John or Priyanka?
KJ:
I think I look the sexiest.

AC: If you were to be on the plane with all three stars of Dostana and only had to save one who would it be?
KJ:
I can't choose within the boys so I'll choose Priyanka.

AC: You've given both Nikhil Advani (Salaam-E-Ishq) and Tarun Mansukhani (Dostana) an opportunity to direct a film for you. Who is the better director?
KJ:
For me as a loyalist, Tarun has stuck by me.

AC: So what did you think about Saalam-E-Ishq?
KJ:
And moving on?

AC: Okay, currently who do you think is the biggest star in India: Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan or Aamir Khan?
KJ:
You are asking me to rate Shah Rukh? Although I think Aamir is a genius, I think he is responsible for the change for the sensitivity shown in our cinema. I think 'Taare Zameen Par' was fabulous. I think we have to give him a lot of credit.

AC: Rani Mukherjee has been getting a lot of stick lately with regards to the way she looks. Do you think she should give up?
KJ:
I think it is an unfair allegation, I think she is a great actress. I think everyone has his or her view. It doesn't mean she has to give up. An actor will always remain an actor.

AC: If you thought a lead role in your film suited Aamir Khan, how would you explain it to Shah Rukh?
KJ: At the end of the day I don't think I chose Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh chose to work with me. The question of explaining doesn't arise.

AC: In your opinion other than yourself who do you think is the greatest filmmaker?
KJ:
I don't think I am a great filmmaker I am just fortunate, it's destiny.

AC: I'll give you three choices instead then Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra or Subhash Ghai?
KJ:
Maybe I'm being a bit bias but Yash Chopra will be one and then Raj Kapoor.

AC: And if you were to choose the most complete filmmaker who would you pick? Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowarikar or Aditya Chopra?
KJ:
Adi has only directed two films, Sanjay has directed four and Ashu has directed four. So then I would choose Sanjay.

AC: If you were not worried about box office results which one actress/actor would you chose to work with?
KJ:
Konkona Sen Sharma.

AC: Which bad actor have you worked with?
KJ:
I haven't worked with any bad actor. Do you think I have? Though I have worked with some very bad background artists. I've worked with some of the finest actors we have, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh.

AC: Finally how would you like to be remembered Karan Johar the best writer, producer or director?
KJ:
Karan Johar Yash Johar's son.
