Entertainment Correspondent Supriya Davda speaks to the cool, talented and friendly R. Madhavan for a quick gup shup on Teen Patti, films and the Big B

Q. How do you select film scripts?
A. I don’t want to experiment with genres; I just want to work on great scripts. I wish I had the luxury of saying that I have six scripts that are fantastic and let me see which one I want to do which I don’t have that. Finding one good script is a huge challenge. So I do a film whose script comes and grabs me. Once I finish that, I look forward to the next movie.
Q. You slip into your characters with so much ease, be it as Farhan Quereshi or going back to perhaps your character in 'Guru' as Shyam Saxena, what sort of preparation do you carry out?
A. I make sure that I know everything about the character I am going to play. I take all the information because it really helps playing the character, such as what kind of emotion you need for the role, the expression everything. So I do my net practice before I come on the field!
Q. You've probably been asked this question umpteen times but what was it like working with Amitabh Bachchan?
A. I am a huge fan of Bachchan ji and now I am his devotee. It’s his personality that made him stay in the industry for 40 years. He is a genius and despite being such a talented and senior actor he is totally down to earth. He knows his work and comes on time

Q. Now correct me if I’m wrong you’re playing a character with grey shades in 'Teen Patti', tell us a little about your character?
A. I am playing a professor who wants to have the luxuries of life as soon as possible. So he makes certain compromises for which he has to make a lot of sacrifices.
Q. Does the film carry a message?
A. 'Teen Patti' is actually about mathematics, how mathematics actually plays a very important role in our life. Today youngsters want everything ASAP. It should be ready-made or easy to cook. Money should be fast so that they get all the luxury soon. They want to live life on the fast track and that is what is shown in the movie with the magic of mathematics.
Q. You’re next film will be 'Tannu Weds Mannu' could you tell us a little about the film?
A. 'Tannu Weds Mannu' is a romantic film with Kangna Ranaut directed by Aanand L. Rai. I can’t talk too much on the film just as yet.
