Are arranged marriages over? Is the web a new match maker? That's the question set in the play Where's My Desi Soulmate?
2009-03-23
Contemporary British Asians are moving away from the traditions of arranged marriage and are looking at new ways of finding a life partner, exploring new methods to find their soul mate. However we all ask ourselves, "Will I find the one?", "What's the secret to happiness?" "Is the grass really greener on the other side?" That is the subject of Rifco Arts' new production: 'Where's My Desi Soulmate?'
There was a time it used to be so simple. Boy meets girl over a plate of samosas in Auntie Narendra's living room. So why, in the age of Shaadi.com, tantric speed dating, cosmic ordering, pokes and twitters is the path to true love bumpier than ever? Is this every Asian parent's worst nightmare - the institution of arranged marriages failing?! Divorce rates are rising and since so many of us are also married to the extended family, is divorce really an option anyway?
Join Rifco's band of lonely hearts on their interweaving journeys to find love and companionship, encountering surprises, wrong turns and occasional heartbreak along the way. Rifco Arts will be giving its audience the opportunity to watch a show full of comedy, and even play a part in choosing the fate of a character. To top it off there will be a great singles event at each venue, and who knows Rifco Arts might be able to arrange you a date.
