When Dorothy famously triumphed over the Wicked Witch, we only ever heard one side of the story. Gregory Maguire's acclaimed 1995 novel, 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West', re-imagined the 'Land of Oz', creating a parallel universe to the familiar story written by L. Frank Baum and first published as 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' in 1900.
'Wicked' tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely friendship between two girls who first meet as Sorcery Students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl, Elphaba.
Following an encounter with 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz', their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The spectacular, multi award-winning stage adaptation, with music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, has become the most spellbinding and successful musical in years.
Experience this unforgettable, award-winning musical and discover that you've not been told the whole story about the Land of Oz.
Acknowledged as "the West End's most successful new musical", Wicked premiered at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006 and has been thrilling audiences ever since.
First opened in 1930, the Apollo Victoria is one of the finest examples of art deco design in the country and was stunningly restored prior to the arrival of 'Wicked' from Broadway. Originally built as a cinema, this majestic 2300 seat venue offers patrons a first-class theatre going experience and was recently named the West End's "Most Comfortable Theatre" (The Stage) and "Favourite London Venue" (lastminute.com). The Apollo Victoria is located directly opposite London Victoria Mainline and Underground stations in Central London.
Ticket prices start from just £15.00 and all seating at the theatre is arranged over just two levels (Stalls and Circle).
