WHAT: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
WHERE: Adelphi Theatre, London
The new production of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour' opened in London at the Adelphi Theatre on Tuesday 17 July 2007. The title role of Joseph is played by the winner of the BBC 'Any Dream Will Do' Lee Mead.
With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, this new staging of the record-breaking 1990's London Palladium production, which was directed by Steven Pimlott, will, once again, be designed by Mark Thompson and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a retelling of a biblical tale as narrated by the 'narrator'. Joseph is one of 12 brothers but the favourite of his father Jacob. As a token of his affections Jacob gives Joseph a wonderful multicolored coat which though looking very fetching upsets his already jealous brothers. To be rid of the favourite child the brothers sell him to passing traders.
This colourful retelling of the biblical story of dreamboat Joseph and his uncanny abilities, favouritism, family rivalry, temptation and that designer coat sings out to young and old alike, with a score which is wall-to-wall hits, including 'Close Every Door' and 'Any Dream Will Do'.
