CHECK OUT MY MELODY: RIZ MC

MC and actor, Britain's rising talent Riz MC is set to turn ripples to waves. Also populary known as Riz Ahmed

Riz MC, author of the infamous internet cult-classic 'Post 9/11 Blues', his self-released debut single, was an internet viral phenomenon, temporarily banned from UK airplay, attracting global media coverage in column inches, radio debates, and TV news special features, returns with his sophomore independent release 'People Like People'. Biting lyricism and subtle delivery remain, but this time set against a completely different musical backdrop of raw electro beats. What emerges is a versatile lyricist and generational voice, not just your average 'rapper'.

An impressively versatile artist, Riz's background on pirate radio sits alongside his recent appointment as 'Emerging Artist in Residence' at London's prestigious Royal Festival Hall. The same quick witted flows that have earned him a string of underground MC battle victories (JumpOff, Ras Kwame's Battle Scars, Nihal's Bombay Bronx) were recently enlisted by the National Ballet of China for their 2008 collaboration with choreographer Akram Khan. The consistent thread is a bold fusion of diverse, unexpected influences that gets beyond superficial borrowing, combined with insightful lyrics and fresh delivery.

Also one of the UK's most exciting acting talents, he made his screen debut in Michael Winterbottom's multi-award winning Road to Guantanamo and was singled out recently by both BAFTA magazine and Screen International as a 'rising star'. Riz played the lead role in acclaimed director Peter Kosminsky's hotly debated 'Britz', which commemorated 25 years of Channel 4 last autumn and was accompanied by a huge billboard, TV, and press campaign. His performance was feted across the press as 'stellar', 'impassioned', and the start of 'what promises to be an impressive career'.

In 2008 he will feature in acclaimed director Sally Potter's new film alongside Judy Dench and Lily Cole, and will appear in the lead role in 'Shifty', opposite Francesca Annis and Jason Flemyng. Fresh from collaborating with Nitin Sawhney, Ojos de Brujos, and approached to work with Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, the nation can expect much more from this unique talent in the forthcoming year, not least his debut album.

As he writes fresh material for a 2008 release and adds to the storming live show which has won him so much support, Riz MC will continue to place his brand of lyricism in fresh musical contexts - fusing the raw ingredients of diverse genres, whilst maintaining the trademark song writing that earned him The Guardian's mantle of 'potential voice of a generation'. Some may say Riz MC has bitten off more then he can chew, we think otherwise as he continues to break down barriers and heads mainstream.
