APPLE IPAD: SOME DEVICES DELIVERED EARLY

Gadget fans are reporting that they have already received their Apple iPad, the day before the device officially goes on sale

BY THE TELEGRAPH | MAY 27, 2010

Apple  has started shipping pre-ordered iPads to customers ahead of the official launch tomorrow, and some lucky gadget fans have already received their device.

Although the iPad doesn't officially go on sale until 8am on Friday morning, some pre-order units of the touch-screen, tablet-style computer have been delivered a day early. Apple fans have been posting information about their shipments on forums and blogs, stating that the devices are "out for delivery" and en route to customers.

On Twitter, dozens of people have been celebrating the early arrival of their iPad. "My iPad has just arrived (1 day early)," wrote one Twitter user, Will Sheward. "UPS delivery guy says he's delivering lots today. I get the impression his van is full of them."

"It's a great day, my iPad has just arrived," tweeted Brian_Saxon. "Bring it on! Thanks Mr Jobs."

"The iPad has arrived," wrote DaveintheCloud on Twitter. "And with the departing delivery driver goes my plan of having a productive day."

Gadget fans are expected to queue through the night to be among the first to get their hands on the iPad. Apple will be opening its 27 stores at 8am tomorrow for eager shoppers, while more than 100 branches of Currys and PC World will be stocking the device. Neither high street store has been expecting pre-orders, so stock will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Apple iPad has proved popular with shoppers in the United States, where more than a million tablets were sold in the first 28 days of release. Vijay Rakesh, an analyst with Sterne Agee, believes Apple has been producing between 1 and 1.5 million iPads per month, and will be scaling up production to roll out around 2.5 million iPads from September onwards.
