Money is actually filthy and covered in germs - but scientists disagree as to the associated risks of handling cash.
A recent study done in the Netherlands found that coins may have up to 1,000 bacteria, while paper notes has a few millions. Before you get too freaked out, bear in mind that your hands carry tens of millions of bacteria, plus fungi and viruses that cannot be washed off even if you tried.
Really the germs on money are the least of your worries.
