With Girls Aloud on the brink of splitting, we look at the girl bands we think could be the next big thing

The Pussycat Dolls are finished and Girls Aloud could soon follow. That's the message emerging from the camps of arguably the two biggest girl bands in world pop. Kimberly Wyatt, from the US group, confirmed their demise a few days ago, following months of speculation.
"Almost all of us have left and have been pursuing our own thing, and that's how it's been left. As far as I know the group has fully disbanded," Wyatt admitted, a fact highlighted by head girl Nicole Scherzinger's ongoing, highly-publicised turn in America's ‘Dancing With The Stars'.
Meanwhile, Kimberley Walsh has now moved to deny claims of conflict between her and the other members of Girls Aloud. "In any group, there will be people you are really on the same wavelength as and others where it's different. But it doesn't mean we're not friends," she said in a new interview.
But crucially, she also admitted "it's inevitable you grow apart", in reference to Nadine Coyle's move to LA. With Cheryl Cole currently in full-on solo mode, one wonders if Girls Aloud will ever work together again? So which group could step into the stilettos of these two acts and become the next big girl band?
Our money is on one of these three contenders:
The Saturdays
The five-piece have already scored six top ten hits, releasing a pair of albums, ‘Chasing Lights' and ‘Wordshaker', and chalking up handy celebrity flings with the JLS and McFly boys. Their most recent smash, ‘Ego', will surely not be Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman's last, making them the clear favourites.
Girls Can't Catch
Daizy Agnew, Jess Stickley and Phoebe Brown are yet to break into the top 10 after two singles, but having already supported Girls Aloud and The Jonas Brothers, there are high hopes for their debut album, which is set to feature tracks written by Pixie Lott and Shaznay Lewis, of All Saints fame.
Dolly Rockers
The only act here not signed to Fascination, the Polydor off-shoot which has overseen Cheryl and co's reign at the top. The trio hit the big time last year with ‘Je Suis Une Dolly', following it up with ‘Gold Digger', which charted at a lowly 46. Since then, Danielle Owen has joined Brooke Challinor and Sophie King in the band, who are expected to release their first new material together this summer.
